Most people take ingredients like flour or sugar out of the bag and then level them, so I took this approach when measuring similar ingredients for my calculator. I also like to squeeze the bag a little beforehand to break up any lumps.

Many conversion tables give a 120g cup of flour. However, the only way to get to the sieve is to sift through the flour and then use a spoon to fill the sifted flour into the cup. I don’t know about you, but I prefer to sift the flour afterwards, not before. So in my calculations, a cup weighs more flour because it reflects how I fill a cup.
For the ingredients in the smaller packets, I pour them straight from the pouch into the jar and flatten the top.
For soft ingredients like butter or cream cheese, I press them into the jar with the back of a spoon to make sure the gaps are filled, then smooth the top.
Accuracy in baking is important, so I recommend using grams in my baking recipes whenever possible.

The official US cup size is 236.588ml, but most commercially available cups assume 240ml for simplicity (which is what I assumed in my calculator). However, some mug manufacturers sell 250ml mugs (but keep the ½ cup at 120ml!).
This is not a big problem as long as you know the owner. The bigger problem is that not all mugs sold are very accurate.

I have two sets of measuring cups and neither has the right amount. In a set my ¼ cup is 65ml (it should be 60ml) but the whole cup is only 225ml when it should be 240ml (don’t worry I’ve adjusted everything here to make sure it fits one cup is exactly the right size). .

Imagine you are measuring walnuts. If you put them in a whole mug, you’ll put a lot less in than if you finely chop them before adding them to the bowl.
There are also some ingredients that are difficult to remove from the jar after filling, like Nutella or black syrup. You’re unlikely to get everything you put in, so consider adding less to your mix than the recipe calls for.
